The first WINSIG of 2010 proved to be a success. We had a decent turnout and answered most of the questions. A couple of the questions proved unanswerable because the software didn't perform as expected.
But, we'll keep trying. Here is an .rtf file that has a brief description and a link to the freeware demo'ed and/or discussed today. Enjoy.
See the Schedule page of this site for the dates of the remaining WINSIG meetings.
As fate would have it, the stars and tides were not aligned for us to conduct the WINSIG meeting. Seems Mother nature had other ideas. A tsunami was generated by the 8.8 quake in Chile and the warnings went up. Advised to stay off the road by Civil Defense authorities, most of us did. No meeting but i did have some software demo's planned. Here they are, in the attached file.
Let me know (name and URL) of any neat freeware or shareware you come across and I'll pass the word along.
March
The only hitch at this meeting was getting an initial internet connection. Once the wireless modem was oriented properly, we got a strong signal and speedy connection. Lots of good questions (and answers) today. Read the associated file for details.
Small-to-Medium turnout today but we kept our selves busy.
Going against tradition I demo'ed a pay for software application, DBOasis. It's worth a look if you are in the market for a full featured, low cost database program. Creat your own database on the fly, in a matter of minutes. We proved that today, you should have seen it. You too, would have been impressed. More on it, and other stuff, in the pdf file.
Another small turn out for todays meeting but an abundance of questions and problems, solvable and unsolvable.
A free diagnostic suite of tools to tweak your system easily and safely. Non-labor intensive mouse and taskbar utilities to make your computer work a bit easier. Plus, some more stuff. Read all about it in the pdf file.
A free PDF convertor; a free picture editor and a free Start Menu enhancer - all were on display at the WINSIG today. Links to the download sites are included for all. Read about them in the attached file.
This month a 64-bit Free PDF application. An Outlook Attachment Viewer that lets you manage your email attachments with ease. A really quick and useful search tool to rid your hard drive of duplicate files. And, if that wasn't enough, an Advanced Renamer to rename multiple files and folders on the fly.
A few useful programs showed off today. All of them free. Freecorder 4 gives you the ability to download videos and audio files from the internet. Save them to your hard drive, burn to a disk, share with friends.
Gadwin Screen Capture. Take a "picture" of all or a portion of your display. Save it to a file or email it. Easy Image Modifier allows you to convert images in various formats to another format. JPG to PNG, PNG to BMP, etc. And some other stuff as well.
Since we don't have any more WINSIG meetings this year, let me be among the first to wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Those of you not of the Christian faith, I wish you a happy Holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
